A New Year! Wow, life just moves along, doesn’t it? Rather than the traditional request for you to consider your New Year’s Resolutions I’m going to approach this a bit differently for 2017. But first let’s step back a little bit. Do you remember when you were younger and perhaps before you had too much experience under your belt? Do you remember when you would have goals that were centered more on feelings that might or might not have been attached to an activity? That’s what I’d like you to think about for the goals you think about for 2017.

Is your goal something along the line of, “I want to earn more money this year to boost my retirement savings?” Great! Now tell me the feelings that are attached to meeting that goal. Security? Freedom? Calm?

Now here’s the bonus question: can you achieve those feelings while you’re on the road to meeting your goal of boosting your savings? We know that any goal will take some time to achieve and while you’re on the path to meeting your goal it is nice to find other ways to get those same feelings.

While it is easy to get caught up on the wave of setting goals, and we know that goals which are written down and spoken outloud are more likely to be achieved, I’d like challenge you to set your goals in a new way. Sound a little scary? Sure it does but you know what? If you’re not getting where you want to go you can always change your mind and get back to setting goals in a more familiar way! Good stuff!

Wishing you all the best for a happy, safe and healthy New Year!
